Taxonomy
Pecten caurinus was named by Gould (1850).

It was recombined as Amusium caurinum by Cooper (1888); it was recombined as Pecten (Patinopecten) caurinus by Dall (1898), Arnold (1903), Arnold (1906), Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Chlamys caurina by Bruff (1946); it was recombined as Patinopecten caurinus by Faustman (1964), Moore (1984), Coan et al. (2000), Hendy (2021).
