Pecten vestalis was named by Reeve (1853) [DISTRIBUTION: California-Ecuador (Recent); California (Miocene).]. It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1992115, a shell.

It was recombined as Chlamys vestalis by Reeve (1853); it was recombined as Spathochlamys vestalis by Waller (1993), Coan et al. (2000), Hendy (2020), Hendy (2021).
