Euchelus was named by Philippi (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 557]. It is extant. Its type is Trochus quadricarinatus.
It was assigned to Eucyclinae by Wilson (1993); to Trochidae by Ladd (1966), Short and Potter (1987), Todd (2001); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Calliotropidae by Bandel (2010).
