Fossariopsis was named by Laube (1868) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Tr Ladi Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cassianopsinae by Bandel (2007).
