Taxonomy
Pleurorhynchus nodulosus was named by M'Coy (1844). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Conocardium nodulosum by d'Orbigny (1850), Morris (1854), Etheridge (1888), Branson (1958); it was corrected as Pleurorhynchus nodulosum by Baily (1871); it was recombined as Fraipontia nodulosa by Rogalla and Amler (2006).
