Lucapinella was named by Pilsbry (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Fissurellinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Fissurellidae by Gardner (1947), Todd (2001) and Lozouet et al. (2001); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
