Moelleria was named by Jeffreys (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 557]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Moelleriinae.
It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Moelleriinae by Hickman and McLean (1990), Bouchet et al. (2005).
