Asterigerina was named by d'Orbigny (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R]. It is extant. It was considered unknown by d'Orbigny (1839).

It was assigned to Amphisteginidae by Cushman (1927), Wienrich (1997); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Asterigerinidae by d'Orbigny (1839), Margerel (2012).

A. D. d'Orbigny 1839Free shell, spiral. Spire rolled up on the side, visible above, embracing below, composed above of single boxes, formed below, on half of its width, by the continuity of the upper boxes and by other boxes which represent a star, and come to alternate with these in the increase of the whole. Chambers of two kinds: the ordinary upper spiral chambers, the lower median chambers, serving to form a central star, each of them coming one after the other alternately. Opening on the side of the last chamber.
