Heliacus planispira was named by Pilsbry and Lowe (1932) [TYPE LOCALITY: Recent; Mazatlán, Mexico]. It is extant. It is the type species of Heliacus (Astronacus).

It was recombined as Heliacus (Astronacus) planispira by Woodring (1959).
