Taxonomy

Plicatula ostreiformis was named by Stanton (1896) [TYPE LOCALITY: California; Martinez Fm (Paleocene)].

It was recombined as Plicatula (Plicatula) ostreiformis by Moore (1987).

Synonyms

Ostrea buwaldana was named by Dickerson (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 790, East of Lower Lake village, which is in a Danian marine siliciclastic in the Martinez Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Plicatula ostreiformis by Squires and Saul (1997).
