Placunanomia inornata was named by Gabb (1864) [TYPE LOCALITY: California; Domengine Fm (Eocene).]. Its type specimen is ANSP 4442 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Pododesmus (Monia) inornata by Vokes (1939); it was recombined as Anomia inornata by Moore (1987).
