Fissurella suffusa was named by Reeve (1850) [TYPE LOCALITY: Honduras MAX. SIZE: 36 mm DISTRIBUTION: USA: North Carolina, Florida: East Florida, West Florida, Florida Keys; Mexico: Veracruz, Campeche State, Alacran Reef, Quintana Roo; Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela: Islas Los Roques, Isla Margarita; Bermuda, Bahamas: New Providence; Cuba: North Havana Province, North Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba; Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman Island; Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico; Virgin Islands: St. John, St. Croix; Brazil: Para, Atol das Rocas, Fernando de Noronha, Alagoas, Abrolhos Islands]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Lucapina suffusa by Rosenberg (2005).
