Arca glacialis was named by Gray (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Arctic (Recent); Newfoundland-Vermont (Pleistocene)]. It is extant. It is the type species of Portlandia.
It was recombined as Nucula glacialis by Wood (1828); it was recombined as Yoldia (Portlandia) glacialis by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Bathyarca glacialis by Rosenberg (2005); it was recombined as Portlandia glacialis by Mörch (1857), Hendy et al. (2008).
