Pseudonina was named by Sacco (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u-l T Plio]. It is the type genus of Provannidae.

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudonininae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
