Taxonomy
Cardium alaeforme clathratum was named by d’Archiac and de Verneuil (1842) [Cardium alæforme var. clathratum]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type subspecies of Babinicardia.
It was recombined as Conocardium clathratum by d'Orbigny (1850), Whidborne (1892); it was recombined as Bigalea clathra by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976); it was recombined as Babinicardia clathrata by Rogalla and Amler (2006).
