Taxonomy
Rhytidopilus was named by Cossmann (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath K Albi]. It is the type genus of Rhytidophilidae.

It was assigned to Patellinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Rhytidophilidae by Starobogatov (1976); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhytidopilidae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
