Taxonomy

Tchingisaurus was named by Alifanov (1993). Its type is Tchingisaurus multivagus.

It was assigned to Pyramicephalosaurini by Alifanov (1993); to Mongolochamopidae by Alifanov (2000); to Piramicephalosauridae by Alifanov (2000); to Polyglyphanodontinae by Gao and Norell (2000); and to Polyglyphanodontidae by Xu et al. (2014).

V. R. Alifanov 1993	Lower jaws massive and medially curved. Angular and supraangular projections of dentary bone approximately equal in size. Angular bone wide, its posterior end double. Lateral cusps of teeth lower and thinner than central cusp. Number of teeth on lower jaw is 17.
