Sphaeropharciceras was named by Bogoslovsky (1955).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pharciceras by Korn and Klug (2002).

It was assigned to Pharciceratidae by Korn (2006); and to Pharciceratinae by Bockwinkel et al. (2013).
