Pleuroclymenia was named by Schindewolf (1934).

It was reranked as Platyclymenia (Pleuroclymenia) by Schindewolf (1955).

It was assigned to Platyclymenia by Schindewolf (1955); to Hexaclymeniidae by Becker (2000); and to Pleuroclymeniinae by Korn (2006).
