Dzhulfites was named by Shevyrev (1965). Its type is Dzhulfites spinosus.

It was assigned to Dzhulfitidae by Spinosa et al. (1975), Leonova (2002), Korn (2006), Korn and Ghaderi (2016), Korn and Hairapetian (2021).
