Taxonomy
Paraprefica major was named by Mayr (1999). Its type specimen is SMNS 81654, a partial skeleton (skull and both wings), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Messel, which is in a MP 11 lacustrine shale in the Messel Formation of Germany.
