Taxonomy
Fasciolaria mutabilis was named by Conrad (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Maryland.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Scaphella (Aurinia) mutabilis by Martin (1904); it was recombined as Aurinia (Volutifusus) mutabilis by Olsson (1967); it was recombined as Volutifusus mutabilis by Conrad (1863), Petuch (1988).

Synonyms
  • Voluta lamberti was named by Morton (1830). It is extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Scaphella (Aurinia) mutabilis by Martin (1904).
