Taxonomy
Fulgur echinatum was named by Dall (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene; Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Busycon (Echinofulgur).

It was recombined as Busycon (Echinofulgur) echinatum by Olsson and Harbison (1953), Olsson and Harbison (1953), Olsson (1967).
