Nassa lunata was named by Say (1826) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene-Recent; western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Columbella lunata by Holmes (1860); it was recombined as Mitrella lunata by Gardner (1948), Abbott (1954), Spencer and Campbell (1987); it was recombined as Anachis (Alia) lunata by Olsson and Harbison (1953); it was recombined as Columbella (Astyris) lunata by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Astyris lunata by Dall (1870), Dall (1890), Rosenberg (2009).
