Busycon epispiniger was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. Its type specimen is USNM 112034, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2212 - Tenmile Creek [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
