Taxonomy
Chondrosteus acipenseroides was named by Egerton (1858). Its type specimen is BMNH P3361, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Lyme Regis, Enniskillen collection, which is in a Sinemurian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
