Ataxocerithium was named by Tate (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cerithiadae by Ladd (1972); to Cerithiopsidae by Wilson (1993); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Newtoniellidae by Darragh (2017).
