Tritia irrorata was named by Conrad (1863) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Pliocene; North Carolina-South Carolina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Ilyanassa irrorata by Conrad (1868), Gardner (1943), Hendy et al. (2008).
