Taxonomy
Baphetes planiceps was named by Owen (1854). Its type specimen is NHMUK R.4056/R.4183, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Albion Mine, Stellarton, which is in a Moscovian terrestrial coal in Canada.
