Taxonomy
Ascospongiella capdevilae was named by Garcia-Bellido and Rigby (2004). Its type locality is Upper Carboniferous fauna San Emiliano Fm at Villafeliz, which is in a Bashkirian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone/marl in the San Emiliano Formation of Spain. It is the type species of Ascospongiella.
