Taxonomy
Alligator mefferdi was named by Mook (1946). Its type specimen is F:AMNH 7016, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Alligator mefferdi Quarry, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ash Hollow Formation of Nebraska.
