Ancilla cinnamomea was named by Lamarck (1801) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Indian Ocean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Ancilla, Ancilla (Ancilla).

It was recombined as Ancillaria cinnamomea by Martin (1895); it was recombined as Ancilla (Ancilla) cinnamomea by Woodring (1964); it was recombined as Ancilla (Sparella) cinnamomea by Oostingh (1935) and van den Hoek Ostende et al. (2002).
