Taxonomy
Dictyoclostus americanus was named by Dunbar and Condra (1932).

It was synonymized subjectively with Reticulatia huecoensis by Hoare (1961); it was synonymized subjectively with Dictyoclostus huecoensis by Mudge et al. (1962); it was recombined as Reticulatia americana by Cooper and Grant (1975).
