Taxonomy
Rhacheosaurus was named by Meyer (1831). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Rhacheosaurini.
It was assigned to Pleurosauri by Fitzinger (1843); to Dactylopodes by Meyer (1845); to Thalattosuchia by Bronzati et al. (2012); to Metriorhynchidae by Young et al. (2013); to Metriorhynchinae by Young et al. (2010), Cau and Fanti (2011), Young (2013); and to Rhacheosaurini by Parrilla-Bel and Canudo (2015), Young et al. (2024).
