Dientomochilus was named by Cossmann (1904) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Rimella (Dientomochilus) by Vredenburg (1921), Pannekoek (1936), Harzhauser et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Strombidae by Woods (1922), Harris and Palmer (1947); to Strombinae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Rimella by Vredenburg (1921), Pannekoek (1936), Harzhauser et al. (2002); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Rimellidae by Quaggiotto and Mellini (2008); and to Rimellinae by Squires (2013).
