Eovolva was named by Schilder (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 121]. Its type is Amphiperas nigeriensis.

It was assigned to Cypraediinae by Vaught et al. (1989); to Pediculariinae by Dolin (1991); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
