Potamides sespeensis was named by Loel and Corey (1932) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; California.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 31589, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. A332, Little Sespe Creek, which is in a Miocene coastal horizon in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
