Eumetula was named by Thiele (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 852]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Eumetulidae by Nützel (1998); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Newtoniellidae by Darragh (2017).
