Taxonomy
Ostrea trigonalis was named by Conrad (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coast.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jackson, which is in an Eocene coastal horizon in Mississippi.

It was recombined as Gigantostrea trigonalis by Palmer and Brann (1965).
