Gibberulus was named by Jousseaume (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R Sepkoski's reference number: 1074]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Strombus (Gibberulus) by Ladd (1972) and Hendy (2007).

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Strombus by Ladd (1972) and Hendy (2007).
