Taxonomy
Gigantocapulus was named by Hayami and Kanie (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l]. Its type is Helcion giganteus. It is the type genus of Gigantocapulidae.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gigantocapulidae by Beu (2007).
