Venus patagonica was named by Philippi (1887) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; Chile, Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Chione patagonica by Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999), Frassinetti (2001), del Rio (2004).
