Taxonomy
Ammonites hippocastanum was named by Sowerby (1826) [= 1966 Lotzeites crassum THOMEL ; PORTHAULT et al., p. 428, pl. 8, figures 3 - 5.
= 1972 Lotzeites crassum THOMEL, p. 78, pl. 26, figures 10 - 12.]. Its type specimen is GSM 37667 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Acanthoceras hippocastanum by Juignet and Kennedy (1976); it was recombined as Calycoceras (Newboldiceras) hippocastanum by Kennedy (2020).
