Discussion

All the material published by Janvier and Villarroel (2000) under the name Bothriolepis, sp. indet. Potrero Rincón 2: SGC-MGJRG.2018.V.21, an almost complete juvenile skull roof (Fig. 4A–D); SGC-MGJRG.2018.V.20, an almost complete adult skull roof (Fig. 4D–H).

Taxonomy

Bothriolepis was named by Eichwald (1840). Its type is Bothriolepis ornata. It is the type genus of Bothriolepididae.

It was assigned to Asterolepididae by Woodward (1891); to Asterolepidae by Hay (1902); to Bothriolepidae by Denison (1978), Weems et al. (1981), Johanson (1998), Thomson and Thomas (2001), Downs et al. (2016); and to Bothriolepididae by Lukševičs (2001), van der Laan (2019).

Synonyms
