Taxonomy
Cythara mucronata was named by Guppy (1896) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Jamaica.]. Its type specimen is USNM 107087, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Thelecythara mucronata by Woodring (1928) and Hendy et al. (2008).
