Taxonomy
Mitra sulcata was named by Swainson (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Ecuador.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Subcancilla.

It was recombined as Mitra (Subcancilla) sulcata by Olsson and Harbison (1953); it was recombined as Subcancilla sulcata by Woodring (1964) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
