Taxonomy
Paragerrhonotus ricardensis was named by Estes (1963). Its type specimen is UCMP 27161, a partial skull (anteior part of skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Last Chance Gulch (UCMP A259), which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial ash in the Ricardo Formation of California. It is the type species of Paragerrhonotus.
