Exilifusus was named by Conrad (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u Sepkoski's reference number: 614,700]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Fusinus by Bentson (1940).

It was assigned to Fasciolariidae by Wienrich (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Peristerniinae by Snyder (2003).
