Taxonomy
Plectronoceras was named by Ulrich and Foerste (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-u Cm Trep-l Sepkoski's reference number: 297]. It is the type genus of Plectronoceratidae.

It was assigned to Plectronoceratidae by Flower (1964) and Teichert et al. (1964); and to Plectonocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
