Taxonomy
Walcottoceras was named by Ulrich and Foerste (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Endoceras monsensis.

It was assigned to Orthocerotidae by Ulrich et al. (1944); to Protocycloceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Huaihecaratidae by Crick (1981); and to Ellesmeroceratidae by Kröger and Landing (2007).
